Book Review 33: Nerve by Jeanne Ryan

Well, I didn't fall in love with this book. It was a quick, interesting read, and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't one of the best books I have read this year. There are a few f-bombs, and other language in the book, but it is not excessive. Nerve is a fairly clean book (proof above). I would say it is a mix of a thriller, Young Adult, mystery (sort of...). It isn't all that violent, isn't gory at all, there are no explicit scenes, so it is a safe book to read (for those who are careful about such things (as I am...), this is a book for you). Vee is a girl who comes out of her shell, and shows the world that she is growing up, and that she needs her freedom. She finds out the truth about the game, and about the people she has trusted for so long, along with finding the guy of her dreams. This is a pretty fascinating book, and I do recommend it, but even though it says for fans of The Hunger Games, don't go into thinking that it is going to be like/similar to The Hunger Games, it is nothing like THG, the only similarity is that they are battling against each other. Movie Review 20: The Hunger Games: MockingJay Part 1

This movie was INCREDIBLE!! So, in my opinion the first part of the book was pretty slow. This movie was not slow. It was clean, and wasn't very violent (less than expected, at least). All of the major plot points were there. The scenes that fans wanted were there, the lines from the book were there, and my favorite part was there (I won't spoil it, but it has to do with a song). My favorite part is still running through my head. Josh Hutcherson dud a great job with Peeta, and Jen. did great as Katniss (as always), well pretty much everyone did great. And they did really well introducing the new characters. There are some heart wrenching moments, and some light hearted moments. Honestly, this one has been my favorite of all three of the movies so far. I can't wait for part 2! And the teaser for Insurgent was amazing as well! I cannot wait to see that one either. Anyway, you will definitely want to see MockingJay part 1 as soon as possible! Oh! And there is an after credits scene (Which I didn't get to see), but as soon as I do, I will add it to this review.

(Update) The post-credits scene is just the MockingJay symbol transforming (again), remember at the end of THG and Catching Fire, how the symbol morphs into the next. All, it did this time was break out of the ring and the screen looked like it was on fire! Anyway, just wanted to let you know!
 
In other news, there are so many books I am trying to get done it is ridiculous! And more are continually being released that I want! Anyway, thanks for reading this and keep checking back for more reviews!

Book Review 32: Accidentally Married by Victorine E. Lieske

This book was really cute! It was a short, quick read that captured my attention from the start. Usually I read three or four books (or more) at a time and just cycle through them as I get bored with one and move to the next, however with this book, that didn't happen...
The story starts quick, and gets right into the main plot. It usually takes me while to get through contemporary books, but I read this one in a total of, well, okay, a week, but that was with school, and chores and everything so...yeah, I finished this book pretty quick. This is a rom-com, so, go into sort of thinking about your fav romantic comedy movie (ex. How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days, 27 Dresses, Sweet Home Alabama, etc.). However, it isn't exactly like any of those, it is basically a mixture of every one of them. Accidentally Married will set any girl's standards for their guy, way high! It didn't drag on, and spend too much time on one subject. I would have liked, however, if there was more background on the characters, and build up of the characters. There are some expected twists, and some that are not quite as expected. There is that crazy ex... And the hilarious, dysfunctional family experience, we all know and sort of love...
There isn't really any language in this books, and no explicit scenes. A, fairly family-friendly book. And I guarantee that you will want more of this story after you have finished Accidentally Married!

Book review 31: Never Fall Down by Patricia McCormick

This book was very emotional. My "feels" scale went from 0-100 then back again. It was a roller-coaster of feels! It is based off of the true story of Arn. It is somewhat gory, and violent, and there language, but take into consideration that this is based on a true story. The story takes place around 1980 in Cambodia. IT is Arn's story of survival during the genocide by the Khmer Rouge. I received this book from Epic Reads, from a giveaway they were hosting earlier this year, and even though it took me a while to finish it, there were so many questions I had about the story and I wanted to know more, once I did. Arn Chorn-Pond has done so much to release the hostages that were still held by the Khmer Rouge in the 1980's and 90's. And take care of those in need. He continues to visit his home and is in contact with those who survived the genocide. He created the Cambodian Living Arts Foundation and received funding for it in 1998. To learn more about it visit www.cambodianlivingarts.org.
I don't recommend this book to those who are under 15 (or 16), and to those who have a weak stomach. However it was a very enlightening, and informational read.

Book review 30! The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

The Darkest Minds was an amazing read! It reminded me of a X-Men esque story. But with all kids (or most) being put into basically concentration camps, but that parents and some of the other adults think that the kids are in reform schools. There is a lot a rebellion and of course rebel agencies. Ruby, our main protagonist doesn't know who to trust except for Suzume, Liam, and Chubs... They saved her life, can she repay the favor and protect them? From the government? From the bounty hunters? And from herself? You will have to read this book to find out. There isn't a lot of language in it, and most of it is located towards the end of the book. The second and third books have been released (Never Fade and In the After Light). There are also a couple novellas. This books will leave with a huge book hangover and you will the second one right away! I know I need it! I highly recommend this book. You know how much I loved The Hunger Games Trilogy? Well, The Darkest Minds just pushed T.H.G further down on my favorites list. Which will be a discussion post coming later (your favorites list? and mine...)

Movie review 19: The Maze Runner

So, I can't say a lot about this movie since I haven't finished the book, and I saw it a couple weeks ago... But, apparently what I heard, was that it was really different from the book. There were a lot of changes made for the film adaptation. However, there isn't really any language in it, and the violence isn't gory (isn't a lot of violence, anyway)... It wasn't the nest movie I have seen this year, and it also wasn't horribly awful and unbearable to watch. A fairly family friendly movie. And the cast did a pretty good job portraying their characters as well. My sister read the book (all of them actually) and she came home pretty frustrated over the changes that they had made, especially some of the deaths that occurred, what the Grievers looked like, and so one. So anyway, there were a lot of changes made, so if you haven't seen this movie yet, I would wait for Netflix or however you get your movies, and then see it. I you are a fan of the books don't do into it thinking that it is going to be just like the book, or as close as the did with The Hunger Games movies, and Divergent, it isn't like the book, my sister said that the only things that were similar were the character names and the fact that it took place in the Maze, not sure about that since I haven't finished it yet, but what do you guys think? Did you like the movie? Was it what you were hoping for? Did they get enough of the book in there for you?

Book Review 29: Four: A Divergent Collection by Veronica Roth

This book was a great read! I loved seeing into Four's mind, where he started and what he went through up to where we meet him. Veronica Roth did a great job of telling his story. I completed this book in about four days total. So, I though I might break this review down to the smaller stories, the first of which is:
The Transfer:
I can't say a lot without giving details away, but I can tell you that it was a better intro to Tobias' life in Abnegation than I had expected. You see what more of what he went through with his father, and you see his thinking on leaving. It also introduces you to some of  the characters you know in Divergent, but before they were rough and tough and truly hated (ex. Eric, and Max). You also meet Zeke, Shauna, Marlene, Lauren, Tori, Uriah, and Amar. You also see how Four got his name...

The Initiate:
You see Four getting used to Dauntless, and you see small friendships form. You also see enemies arise, that threaten to destroy him. You see him rise to the top while others fall. And you see how he gains the determination to protect those he cares about, and the strength he needs to do it.

The Son:
In this story, you see Four, settling into his new apartment, and trying to fit in as much as possible. You meet someone you never expected. And he also gets a suspicion that sets him on his course...

The Traitor:
Four is now spying on the people that he is supposed to trust, the people meant to lead him, and the other Dauntless, some of whom he calls friends. You start to see just how far he is willing to go to get the truth and you see the beginning of Divergent. You also, see the start of his relationship with Tris...


There are also a few other short scenes, from his view including:

All in Four's perspective.




The stories were amazing and I recommend them to anyone who love the Divergent Series. Seriously check this book out!

Book Review 28: The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

This book was amazing! I said in my Goodreads review that it will most likely be considered a classic in years to come, along side The Hunger Games and the Divergent trilogy. Rick Yancey is a genius. Even though parts of this book were confusing, it was an amazing read. Cassie is the hero that I would want to be in her situation. Evan is the perfect guy, even with his quirks (a 8.5 out of 10 on my scale). I can't wait to get into The Infinite Sea. There isn't really language in it, although the f-bomb is dropped once, the rest is mild and rarely used. Cassie goes through normal teenager stuff (feelings, problems, etc.) all while surviving an alien apocalypse. And she starts to fall for someone she is not sure she can trust, all the while trying to keep a promise she made...
She is sarcastic, strong willed, weak, kind, understanding, and trusting, all while questioning everything and everyone. The characters in this book are all very relate-able, and you can connect to any of them. What they go through is extremely similar to what teens/young adults, kids, and even adults go through today, but in a alien apocalypse setting. I highly recommend this book, but you may want to get The Infinite Sea along with it!

Book Reviews 26 & 27: Endurance by Ann Aguirre and Hive & Heist by Janine A. Southard

Endurance by Anne Aguirre: This book is Thimble's and Stone's perspective right after Deuce and Fade go on the long walk. It shows how the enclave falls, and is destroyed. This is Thimble, Stone and Boy23's story of survival. It covers some of the hardships they had to face and the ways that they had to adapt. Even though I still need to finish the trilogy, this book was really well written (except for a few grammar errors here and there), and it is always great to see a different side of the story. I really like it and if you read it you will too. It is available, on GooglePlay, and possibly wherever you buy your e-books. So, here is the synopsis...

Hive & Heist  by Janine A. Southard: So this was one of the books I received for a book tour this past summer, and wasn't able to finish right away, and then I forgot. So, here it is now. Hive & Heist, the second book in The Hive Queen Saga, was really interesting. I loved the development of the characters, and the story picked up almost exactly where the first left off. There were things that I didn't expect in it, and I had to keep reading all the way to the end. I couldn't stop until it was done! And now, I want more, so, when the next book comes out, I will be one of the first to get it. If you don't know what I am talking about The book, Queen & Commander was book one, and I read it this past summer, I really enjoyed it and since I had received the second as well, I just continued to love the saga. They are available as e-books wherever you buy your e-books. Book Review 25: The Fear Trials by Lindsay Cummings

The Fear Trials is a short novella set before The Murder Complex takes place it is the training that Meadow receives from her father preparing her for the battle she will have to face later on. It shows how dark her world is and how the tragedy that has set in has affected her and her family. I loved this book just as much as The Murder Complex. It is available as an e-book almost anywhere. If you loved The Murder Complex, then you will most likely love The Fear Trials as well.
